As "177" was being developed, Mrs. Helen Gerloff's dream was to build an interdenominational chapel where the residents could worship. In 1965, with her leadership and many hours of hard work by volunteers, The Chapel of the Lakes became a reality. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Gerloff donated the land on which the chapel is located. In 1998, Mr. Gerloff established a trust fund of which the interest is used for the operations and maintenance of the chapel in memory of his beloved wife. The beautiful stained glass cross was built through a labor of love by the W. F. Burwell family. With the help of her sons and husband, Mrs. Helen Burwell built the lovely cross. In 1999, Helen and her sons removed the cross and had it permanently leaded and reinstalled in the chapel.
Each Sunday services in the chapel begin at 8:00 AM with different ministers bringing the message. The service is usually concluded by 9:20 AM, which allows time for those who wish to attend other churches to do so. For over 44 years, the chapel has been the site of an Easter Sunrise service beginning at 7:00 AM. Everyone is invited to attend the Sunday services. The dress is informal and fellowship is rewarding.
Church dinners, Christmas programs and the Annual Food Drive in November take place at the chapel. It can also be rented for weddings, anniversary receptions and memorial services. For information concerning the services or rental of the chapel go to Chapel of the Lakes
